“What
students would learn in American schools above all is the religion of Jesus
Christ.” George Washington
[Speech to the Delaware Indian Chiefs May 12, 1779]
George Washington had a vision
for the public school system in the United States of America. He, along
with many of our founding fathers, believed that schools should be established
to teach the Christian religion to our nation’s young people. This is a
far cry from where we are today. Groups such as the ACLU and the NEA have
been hard at work to remove any hint of the Christian religion from our
nation’s classrooms.
If you take the time to
research the writings of the founding fathers and examine what the schools
taught in the early years of our nations history, you will discover that the
above quote is not an isolated comment by our first president. You will
discover the rich Christian history of our nation’s schools and come to realize
that what we accept today in our classrooms is nowhere near what they had in
mind for our students.
In fact, what we have today in
our public schools is exactly the opposite. Rather than being instructed in
the Christian religion and learning each subject from a Biblical perspective,
our students today are being taught that man is the author and expert of each
subject and that the Bible and Christian principles have no place in the world
of academics. The Christian religion that at one time was the cornerstone
of the classroom has been almost completely removed in the name of tolerance
and the “separation of church and state.” Which, by the way, is not found
anywhere in the Constitution and has been misused to lead our nation down a
path that our founding fathers never intended us to travel.
Our nation was established as
a Christian nation with the intent that we would remain a Christian
nation. This would not be accomplished through the establishment of a
national church or by forcing people to convert to Christianity. Our
founding fathers were careful to provide us with the freedom to choose our
beliefs. However, they also made it very clear that Christian principles
were foundational to maintaining the freedoms that we enjoy. They set up
a system of government based on Biblical precepts and desired that young people
be trained in the fundamentals of the Christian religion in order to safeguard
the freedoms that our government provided.
Education plays a vital role
in this process and that is why leaders such as George Washington desired that
our schools first and foremost would teach the Christian religion to our
students. Community Christian High School is established in line with
what Washington envisioned. We believe it is essential that students are
thoroughly trained in the Christian religion and that Christian principles are
laid at the foundation of every subject, equipping students with the tools
necessary to do battle and fight effectively for the Kingdom of God in the
roles God has prepared for them. We invite you to join us in this battle
by supporting our high school efforts in prayer and by giving strong
consideration to enrolling your student when they have the opportunity.
